We promise you this in every bottle

Our wines come from the Ruwer Valley, a side valley of the Moselle, characterized by slate soils and a unique cool microclimate. We carefully pick and select our grapes by hand and work with only the best grapes to minimize yields. Our vineyards are cultivated according to biodynamic principles and the wines are produced in a purist manner. Sustainability, a sense of responsibility and fair cooperation are our top priorities.

Karthäuserhof BRUT

A dream come true

Our Karthäuserhof BRUT combines the power and finesse of the Ruwer sites Eitelsbach, Mertesdorf and Waldrach in a unique sparkling wine. The hand-picked Riesling and Pinot Blanc grapes are characterized by the typical Devonian slate, which provides depth and mineral structure. While the Mertesdorf sites give the sparkling wine an elegant finesse, the cooler climate of the Waldrach vines brings fresh notes. The complex vinification, which initially allows the base wine to mature in a mix of stainless steel and wooden barrels, leads to an incomparable structure and maturity after 36 months of yeast storage in the bottle. In the glass, the sparkling wine has a delicate appearance with aromas of fennel, lime and fine brioche notes. On the palate, the precise acidity and mineral depth impress with a complex play of citrus fruits, herbal spices and a fascinating minerality reminiscent of wet stone. A sparkling wine for everyone who wants to experience Brut in its finest form.

Karthäuserhof BRUT

In the words of the technical director

The Karthäuserhof BRUT is the result of years of dedication and vision and fulfills the 800-year-old dream of our ancestor Valentin Leonardy. Made from hand-picked Riesling and Pinot Blanc grapes from the historic Ruwer Valley, this sparkling wine embodies both the heritage and the pioneering spirit of our winery. The gentle processing and 36-month maturation on the fine yeast creates an incomparable depth and elegance that makes this sparkling wine a special addition to our collection.

Speiseempfehlung Karthäuserhof Brut

food recommendation in detail

oysters, tuna tartare, lobster salad

The Karthäuserhof BRUT harmonizes perfectly with fine dishes such as oysters with a hint of yuzu or an elegant tuna tartare with avocado and wasabi cream. It unfolds its freshness and lively perlage with fried duck liver on brioche with fig chutney or a light lobster salad with grapefruit. It is the ideal accompaniment to exquisite starters and sophisticated seafood creations.

Karthäuserhof Etikett Eitelsbach

trademark

A globally unique trademark

The Eitelsbach stream runs through the garden in front of our main house, where Willhelm and Kathinka Rautenstrauch spent cool breaks in hot summers in the 19th century. To cool the Karthäuserhof wines, they put the bottles in the cold stream. But the labels came off and floated away. This is how Wilhelm Rautenstrauch invented our unmistakable neck label and a trademark that is unique worldwide.

Karthäuserhof Weinberg

vineyards of immeasurable value

Das macht
den Karthäuserhofberg so legendär

Our monopoly location, the Karthäuserhofberg, is considered one of the most traditional and fascinating vineyards in Germany. The steep southwest slope of the Karthäuserhofberg in the Ruwer Valley ensures optimal sunlight and a special microclimate. The mineral-rich slate soil gives the wines an unmistakable finesse and elegance that reflects the terroir of the Karthäuserhofberg. Wine has been grown here for over 1000 years. This long history and the accumulated knowledge shape every wine that is produced here. The combination of these two grape varieties in the special location in particular ensures wines of great complexity, freshness and longevity.
