We promise you this in every bottle

Our wines come from the Ruwer Valley, a side valley of the Moselle, characterized by slate soils and a unique cool microclimate. We carefully pick and select our grapes by hand and work with only the best grapes to minimize yields. Our vineyards are cultivated according to biodynamic principles and the wines are produced in a purist manner. Sustainability, a sense of responsibility and fair cooperation are our top priorities.

KARTHÄUSERHOFBERG Riesling Großes Gewächs 2019

The ultimate in the Ruwer

The Karthäuserhof VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS® 2018 impresses with its complex aromas: ripe apple and pear notes meet fresh lemongrass and a delicate hint of green tea. Its mineral depth unfolds on the palate, characterized by the Devonian clay slate of the Karthäuserhofberg, which gives the wine an unmistakable saltiness and finesse. The powerful structure and lively acidity ensure balance, while the complex nuances and exceptional length leave an impressive taste experience. A Riesling with substance and elegance that has the potential to develop over the years. The grapes for the 2018 VDP.GROSSE GEWÄCHS® come partly from the oldest plot "Kronenberg" with vines that are over 70 years old.

food recommendation in detail

The wine harmonizes with seafood, white fish and white meat, but also accompanies cheese extremely elegantly.

Karthäuserhof Etikett Eitelsbach

trademark

A globally unique trademark

The Eitelsbach stream runs through the garden in front of our main house, where Willhelm and Kathinka Rautenstrauch spent cool breaks in hot summers in the 19th century. To cool the Karthäuserhof wines, they put the bottles in the cold stream. But the labels came off and floated away. This is how Wilhelm Rautenstrauch invented our unmistakable neck label and a trademark that is unique worldwide.
